YOUR CHILD IS ARRESTEDWhat happens now?If your child is arrested, the police will call you, take your child home, or take your child to the JJC to be kept in detention. The Police will try to notify you if your child is detained. If your child is detained, you will be called on the next business day by a probation officer and told if and when your child's detention hearing is scheduled. At the detention hearing the Judge or Magistrate will ask you if you want to hire a lawyer or if you want a public defender appointed for your child. The Judge or Magistrate will decide if your child will be detained or released to you with conditions. The Probation Department will then decide if the police reports should be sent to the Prosecutor to determine if delinquency charges should be filed against your child.
